Imprisoned activist Rod Coronado has been released from prison to a half-way house. You might know Rod as the spokesperson for the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) during Operation Bite Back, a series of fur farm raids in 1991-1992, which caused more than one million dollars in property damage.
Thank you Rod for everything you've done for the animals, you are a true hero.

China currently supplies half of the fur garments imported and sold the the United States. PETA has just released a new investigation highlighting some of what goes on in Chinese Fur Farms.
"..many animals are still alive and struggling desperately when workers flip them onto their backs or hang them up by their legs or tails to skin them. When workers on these farms begin to cut the skin and fur from an animal's leg, the free limbs kick and writhe. Workers stomp on the necks and heads of animals who struggle too hard to allow a clean cut."
The first step to doing something is knowing something. Watch the video, get mad, and get active and never forget, WE have the power to stop this.
Pledge to go fur-free at PETA.org.

Demonstrations will be held against Ungar Fur's every Friday at 1pm in Portland Oregon.
The group organizing the campaign released this statement recently:
"We have started a dedicated and focused anti fur campaign against UNGUR FUR's. We are here to educate the public on the process in which the fur goes through to end up on the bloody racks at a fur shop. how this fur was once a part of a living creature with its own life."Ungar Fur's is located at SW 12th and Yamhill in Portland, Or.
If you live in the Portland area then you should definitely be there. If you are planning a trip to the Northwest, you should swing through Portland on a Friday afternoon to join the masses.
If you don't know much about what's happening to animals used for fur then check this out.
If you love your dog or cat, don't support fur!

National animal rights organization, In Defense of Animals, has launched a campaign to stop Amazon.com from selling fur. Recently, Amazon competitor Zappos.com has gone fur-free and attracted a considerable amount of business because of it.
The fur industry is responsible for the torture and deaths of millions. Animals are skinned (sometimes alive), electrocuted, have their necks broken, stuffed into tiny filthy cages, and poisoned for the sake of an out-of-date fashion.
Be the voice for millions of tortured animals by telling Amazon to go fur-free today!
For more information about the industry that Amazon.com is currently supporting, go to furisdead.com.

I've noticed a lot of you reading this site so i thought I would pass on a little something i got from one of my favorite places, Food Fight! Vegan Grocery.
Here's a list of all the fur farms in Oregon in case you want to get out and do some outreach (fliers, letter writing, pamphlets, etc.)
Let's get out there and make this a better x-mas season for all those locked away on these farms who have no freedom and no voice.

Portland Oregon activists have scared away every furrier in the city except one, Nicholas Ungar Furs. The anti-fur movement in Portland has grown with every victory and will continue until Nicholas Ungar Furs is finally out of business. The campaign against the furrier will eventually end in victory for the animals, it's only a matter of time.
This years Fur Free Friday brought massive protests to the door of Ungar Furs. The Portland Independent Media Center had a great report on some of the activities:
"At Ungar Furs, I watched as the police raced over to inform the proprietors that people of conscience were almost at their door. An agitated employee came out and unabashedly pulled clanging metal doors shut, fumbling with the locks. He was unable to get the doors to close properly, and his movements became more frenzied and panic-stricken, as the chanting crowd closed in. A couple of yellow-jacketed (rent-a?) cops grabbed the doors and tried to wrestle them closed. (After all, the police state works for the business alliance in this town, so corporate security is obviously a big part of their job description.) At last, the metal gates were closed and locked, and just in the nick of time. A moment later, radical cheerleaders, little old ladies, small children, teenagers, dogs, and activists of all kinds descended on the establishment, belting out anti-fur chants and strong doses of conscience. A banner reading, "A.L.F. Welcome Here" was unfurled in front of the barred doors. We stayed long enough to keep the doors closed for awhile on this Black Friday, and a smaller crowd returned later, to keep the doors closed even longer."Activists from all over the Northwest are gathering to help take down this furrier. If Nicholas Ungar Furs closes (and it will), Portland will be "furrier free." This campaign will send a strong message to the fur industry that will resonate for years to come.
Join the fight to close Nicholas Ungar Furs:

Today is an annual international day of protest against fur. Even tough everyday is fur free, today will be official.
Fur is bad for so many reasons but I've compiled the top 5 (in no particular order) of why I'm against it:
5. On average it takes about 120 dead animals to make one fur coat. That's 120 lives that ended brutally so I could wear a something that makes me look like a complete douchebag.
4. Fur production is BAD for the environment. I like to think of myself as a steward of the earth and fur production uses 15 times more energy than faux-fur production (link).
3. Animals are gentle and caring and don't hurt anyone else unless threatened. The fur industry uses the sweetest animals for skinning (link).
2. No federal humane slaughter law protect animals in fur factory farms so owners are allowed to get away with some of the most gruesome and sadistic acts imaginable. Animals are killed with poison, gas, anal electrocution, neck breaking, and are often skinned alive (link).
1. I love my cat. Thousands of dogs and cats are made into the fur coats and trims that are sold around the world. If the fur is sold below a hundred dollars, manufacturers are not mandated to say wear the fur came from. Often times the pelts of dogs and cats are labeled faux fur (link).
Please speak out and help stop this horrible practice. Check out this website for more information of what Fur Free events are happening in your area today.
Please take to time to send this video to friends and family to remind them of the cruelty and inspire them to change.

Wanna be Eco-friendly this winter? WEAR FUR! The FCC or Fur Council of Canada is marketing this masochistic 'fashion' as this winter's hottest eco-trend. There campaign is in full force to convince people that fur is the oldest and most popular form of environmentalist fashion (link).
I feel like I'm in an alternate universe. This is the strangest marketing strategy I've ever seen. Check out these adds below to really be tripped out. I cant believe they used a picture of a guy roasting something that looks like a head in an ad for environmentalism.
My favorite quote from the furisgreen.com website is this :
"fur also makes sense if we want to protect nature."WTF! This is a perfect example of saying the opposite of what is actually true and hoping people believe it. Their website should have said:
"Research shows that most animals prefer to be anally electrocuted and skinned alive
rather than live out a full and happy life in the wild."
To quote a devote student of the fur trade Adolf Hitler, "in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility."
Please get informed about this issue of "green washing" the fur industry. Don't believe the lies.

Do you think that fur is 'green'?
